Today, I bring the word of God to you from Acts 1:6-9

Scripture: Acts 1:6-9

Act 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

Act 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Act 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

PRAYER FOR OVERCOMING BITTERNESS

Are you bittered with yourself or someone else? Do you find it very difficult to forgive that fellow who offended you? There is a way out if only you can step back and talk to God about it. The prayer for overcoming bitterness will guide you to pray using appropriate scriptures. However, before you pray, it is important that you understand a few things about bitterness. The first among these is that bitterness is a ‘poison’ – a poison designed by the enemy to terminate your life (Rom 3:13 – 14, Job 21:25) and thereby end you up in hell. Apart from that, it is also important to know that bitterness is a satanic strategy targeted at stealing your joy and happiness (Lam 3:15-17). When you are filled with bitterness, the devil is happy because he knows that greater sin such as murder is knocking at your door. Finally, you need to understand that bitterness is a sin and you have an obligation to cast it out of your life (Eph 4:31, Heb 1:15). This is God’s commandment which you must obey! Now that you know better, let’s pray.

GIVE THANKS TO GOD FIRST

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your grace and mercy over my life
Thank you, Lord, because you are here to help me
Thank you, Father, for making me an overcomer through Christ.
Thank you, Jesus, for your salvation. May all glory, honour be ascribed to your holy name forever.

PRAYER POINTS FOR OVERCOMING BITTERNESS

Father, I come before you today with bitterness of soul, please let my prayer receive speedy answers in the name of Jesus (1Sam 1:10)
It is written, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen” (Phil 4:13). Father strengthen me to break every chain of bitterness in the name of Jesus.
Father empower me with the grace to forgive everyone who has offended me in the name of Jesus (Matt 6:14, Eph 4:32).
It is written, “I see that you are in the gall of bitterness” (Act 8:23). Father deliver me from every gall of bitterness in the name of Jesus.
It is written “…that no root of bitterness spring up” (Heb 12:15). Father don’t let me ever fall short of your grace and don’t allow bitterness to ever germinate in my life in the name of Jesus.
It is written, “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and slander be put away from you” (Eph 4:31). Heavenly Father, I have made up my mind not to be bitter again, please let all bitterness disappear from me in the name of Jesus.
It is written “He has filled me with bitterness” (Lam 3:15). Father empty me of all bitterness I have been filled with in the name of Jesus.
Father, as you empty me of bitterness, please fill me with joy and gladness in the name of Jesus (Ps 51:8).
It is written “and another died in the bitterness of his soul” (Job 21:25). Father don’t let me perish in the bitterness of my soul. Please deliver me in the name of Jesus.
It is written “Be angry and sin not” (Eph 4:26). Father, I have made up my mind not to sin again, please deliver me from the bond of sin (Act 8:23) in the name of Jesus.
Father give the grace stop complaining and telling others about those who have offended me in the name of Jesus (Job 10:1).
Father don’t let me ever be bitter with you in the name of Jesus. Instead of bitterness, please give me revelation in the knowledge of you (Eph 1:17)
It is written, “Rejoice in the Lord always” (Phil 4:4, 1Thes 5:16). Father, let my heart and my soul always rejoice in you in the name of Jesus.
Thank you, Jesus, for giving me the grace to pray today and to overcome bitterness.

Prayer for overcoming Rejection

The under listed prayer points are scripture based prayers that can help you to break shackles of rejection. God did not promise that men will not reject you, what he promised is that you will overcome. If you have suffered rejection lately, do not be angry with yourself, instead, take it to God in prayer. Esther took a bold step to overcoming rejection through fasting and prayer (Est 5:2). David was the least recognised among his brothers yet he was favoured and chosen by tGod. It is your turn to be favoured. Use the following prayer points to talk to God about that difficulty and I’m very sure God will honour his word and you will have a testimony.

It is written “blessed are you when men shall hate you, and ...separate you from their company” (Matt 5:11); Father let your blessing come upon me and everything I do in the name of Jesus.
It is written, "For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield". Father, surround me with your favour this season in the name of Jesus (Ps 5:12)
It is written "…by my God have I leapt over a wall" (Ps 18:29). According to the word of the Lord, I leap over every wall of rejection and limitation this season in the name of Jesus.
Mary was highly favoured among women; Father, let me be highly favoured this season in the name of Jesus (Lk 1:28).
David was preferred above his brothers and was chosen for God’s anointing. Father, let me be preferred and be chosen for every good thing I pursue this season in the name of Jesus.
Heavenly father, just as Daniel was preferred above all the chosen, let me receive unmerited preference among the chosen this season in the name of Jesus (Dan 6:1-3).
Father, please let all things begin to work together for my good as from today in the name of Jesus (Rom 8:28).
Thank you, Father, for giving me the grace to call on you in prayer.
Thank you, Lord, for answering all my prayers.

Feeling Rejected? God Can Help

Scripture: Ps 27:10

Have you suffered any form of rejection lately? Do you feel so dejected, hopeless and sad? I have good news for you – God is waiting and ready to help (Ps 46:1). The Lord is waiting for you to call on him in prayer (Ps 145:18). You might have prayed before, it does not matter, you need to pray again. Your present predicament is inconsequential in the sight of God - if you allow him to come in, you are sorted.

Why have you been rejected? Has that fellow who initially said yes to the proposed marriage now says no? Don’t worry, your heavenly father is making a way for you. He will do it in such a way that will amaze you and everyone rejoicing at your calamity now. You will soon be married and you will no longer be called rejected (Isa 62:4). But you need to pray!

Are you so dejected because you have applied for that most desired job and could not get it? Or it is that much-needed visa application and you were rejected. The Lord is saying ‘now is the time to get it’ – step back, re-strategise and dedicate some time to pray about it, and go for it again. Surely, the Lord will help you and the result will be amazing.

I have emphasised in this message that you need to pray. Why? The reason is that you need to know whether it the devil is trying to block your way or maybe what you are chasing after is not even the plan of God for your life. I know a young man who proposed to a lady a few years ago and after a while, the lady rejected and insulted him. Shortly after that event, he realised that God has a different and a better plan for his life. Beloved, note this; some rejections are blessings in disguise! Please pray!!

Viewing from the works of enemy’s perspective, rejection might be the result of an evil mark of the devil on you. This mark you cannot see physically, but it manifest wherever you go for help. In this case, an intense prayer of deliverance is needed. Beloved, don’t be ignorant of the devices of the devil (2Cor 2:11). You might not be able to kill the devil, but you have a God who can frustrate his evil plans (Job 5:12). So, pray!

Finally, if your case is job-related, then check that you have the required skill and tick boxes for that job application or contract. The scripture encourages you to study to show yourself approved (2Tim 2:15). David was already a skilful shepherd of sheep before God could call him to shepherd his people.

How about your salvation?

Are you saved? Not sure? Then you need to understand that one of the surest ways to get God’s help is by submitting to his leadership. The only way to do this is by submitting to Jesus Christ, the Lord. If you will like to do so today, then say this short prayer of salvation with all your heart and you will be saved.

Prayer for courage

Courage is the innate capacity to do what is right when everyone around you is doing the opposite. Courage gives you the ability to proclaim Christ when others are denying him. Taking a brief look brief at the scripture, I found out that courage can give you the zeal, the boldness and the strength to fulfill your God-given destiny (Deut. 31:7, 1Chr. 22:13). Courage can energise you to kill your Goliath and thereby announce you to the world (like the case of David). Courage can take you from obscurity to fame. God knows the potential power of courage, he instructed Joshua several times to be courageous (Joshua 1:6 -7, 1:9). David instructed his son, Solomon, on many occasions to be strong and courageous (1Chr. 28:20) because he understood that courage is the pathway to victory.

Beloved, you need to be courageous. If you are not, you can ask God for the grace to be courageous today.

Below are a few prayers you can pray for courage. They are written for every beloved of Christ who desires to gain strength and courage in their daily activities or endeavour.

Prayer point for courage

1. Heavenly Father, I come before you today. Please give me the courage to overcome all fears in the name of Jesus (Deut 31:6)

2. Father, please encourage me to do your will in all things in the name of Jesus.

3. Lord, please release to me the courage to forgive everyone that have offended me in the name of Jesus.

4. Everlasting Father, please give me the courage and serenity to accept what you will not change for me in the name of Jesus.

5. Father, please give the courage and the boldness to kill every Goliath in my life (Goliath of laziness; Goliath of procrastination; Goliath of besetting sin, etc) in the name of Jesus.

6. Father, please give me the courage to love those who hate me in the name of Jesus (Matt. 6:15).

7. Everlasting Father, please give the courage to preach the gospel of Christ in the name of Jesus (1Cor. 9:16-17).

8. Heavenly Father, please give me the courage to stand up for Christ even when those around me are denying Him in the name of Jesus.

9. Father, please give the courage to pursue and take back every lost glory in the name of Jesus (1Sam. 30:6, 6:8, 6:18).

10. Father, give me the courage to overcome all form of defeats in the name of Jesus

11. Almighty Father, please give the courage to overcome every temptation in the name of Jesus.

12. Father as I made up my mind to be courageous, let courage take me from obscurity to fame in the name of Jesus.

13. Father, let the kind of courage and boldness that came over Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be release unto me as from today in the name of Jesus (Dan. 3:16-18)

Reasons for a wilderness experience

A wilderness experience is not palatable. Many at times you go through unpleasant situations and endure a lot of discomfort, trials and temptations. You pray and it seems as if prayers are not answered. Then you begin to ask series of questions – why am I in this situation? Why is God not doing this or that? Because you couldn’t find the right answers, you become frustrated both physically, spiritually and emotionally. As a believer, if you are in this kind of situation for too long, you might just be going through a wilderness experience.

Wilderness experience, however, is for a good purpose. In Deuteronomy 8:2 we see three-fold reasons why a believer might go through wilderness experience: (1) humility purpose; (2) test his faith; (3) to know what is in the believer’s heart. That said, but why does God want to humble you? Why is He interested in testing your faith? Why does He want to know what is in your heart? Well, God’s ultimate intention for allowing you to go through wilderness experience is for your good. Let’s discuss this more.

HUMILITY PURPOSE

God wants to humble you for many reasons. Prominent among them is to preserve your soul (Prov 16:18). Pride brings destruction and your maker does not want you to perish. Remember that Satan and his rebellious demons fell because of pride and they are doomed to perish in the last day. Because God loves you, he will do everything possible to humble you – if need be with wilderness experience. Another reason why God wants to humble you is because He knows that humility brings riches and honour (Prov 22:4). God wants to enrich you, but he knows that when riches come, pride comes as well and destruction follows. Thus, God needs you to learn humility before He makes you rich so that you will not fall away thereafter.

Wisdom: If you are passing through a wilderness experience, learn humility quickly so that your wilderness experience can be cut short. God is waiting is waiting to lift you up if only you can humble yourself (James 4:10).

TEST (PROVE) OF FAITH

Why does God wants to test your faith even when you’re going through difficulty and challenges? The ultimate intention is to promote you (Psalm 75:6-7). We Christians are students of our Teacher, Jesus Christ. No student gets promoted unless they are examined. Examination brings promotion. Daniel’s faith was put to test several times (Daniel 1:8-12, 2:1-28) and each time his faith was tested he got promoted thereafter (Daniel 1:19-20, 2:48). Jesus test even His disciples (John 6:6) as well. As a true child of God, you are not exempted. If God allows the devil to tempt you, He will also provide a way of escape for you (1Corinthians 10:13). Remember, however, that the ultimate objective is not only to see whether you are still standing in faith but to promote you.

Wisdom: Beloved watch and pray. Have a great attitude to people and things because you never know the day that crucial examination will come.

TO KNOW YOUR HEART

Your heart is very important to God because as the scripture says (Prov 4:23) ‘out of your heart are the issues of life’. A further look into the scripture reveals that from your heart comes salvation (Romans 10:10) and all forms of evil and defilement such as fornication, adultery, theft, murder, pride and destruction (Matthew 15:18-19). An unregenerated heart is full of wickedness (Jeremiah 17:9) and no wicked person will inherit the kingdom of God. God knows all these and does not want you to be a castaway, he needs you for his kingdom both on this earth and in heaven. As a result, He wants to know what you’re hiding in your heart – love or hate, faith or fear, evil or good.

Wisdom: If you are going through a wilderness experience, I suggest you do a self-examination of your heart today and see if there is any evil, unforgiveness, hate, etc, cast them out so that the blessing of God can come upon you. Jesus says “blessed are the pure in heart…” (Matthew 5:8).

Let there be light

Light, as we all know, is very important in human life. Imagine a sudden absence of all form of light (the sun, the moon, electricity, solar, etc) in the whole world. What do you think? A beautiful dark world or a disgusting and awful dark planet to live in? I guess your answer is as good as mine: The world will be a miserable place to live in! Sorrow will not be uncommon! The future will be gloomy! And death will be commonplace. Believe me or not, such is the situation with everyone who does not have ‘the light of life’.

In Genesis 1:3, God said “Let there be light” and what follows was a big miracle that is forever with us. This scripture (Gen. 1:3), apart from its contextual meaning, has a big spiritual implication for some category of people: the miserable, people with marital woes, the captive, and those with addictions.

Let’s look at two of these today and we can some other times look into others.

THE MISERABLE

If you consider yourself to be living a miserable life – a life that is empty and full of unhappiness, you are probably wallowing in the swamp of spiritual darkness. This might be a pointer to the presence of spiritual darkness within and around you. If your future is gloomy and there seems to be no direction to your life, the solution to your challenges lie in what God is saying to you today “let there be light”. Now, when God speaks, the choice is yours to accept it or not. To me, ‘Let there be light’ implies that you have a role to play: The simple role you need to play is to allow the light into your life. You might be asking how? Jesus says in John 8:12 that ‘he is the light of the world and that anyone who follows him will not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life’. Jesus is the light you need in your life. If you will accept Him (Jesus) as Lord and Saviour today, he will fill you with the light that is sufficient to disperse any darkness that has brought emptiness and misery to your life.

TURBULENCE MARRIAGE

Marriage is meant to be enjoyed. To some people, it’s not exactly so. If your marriage has never known peace and all that happens in your home is regular fighting and quarrelling, this is a sign of the absence of ‘the light of life’. When darkness surrounds a home or marriage, the husband will not be able to see anything that he does wrong and so also the wife. If for example, the wife offends the husband, pride will not allow her to apologise, hence no peace and love in the home. Pride in this example is one of those elements of darkness that the light of God is ready to take away from you. The presence of light of God in your home will lay bare every root of disagreement and help you to overcome them. If you consider your marriage to be in a turbulent situation, God is saying to you today “Let there be light”.

ARE YOU SAVED?

The only way to receive the light of God is by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour of your life. With Jesus, you can overcome all form of darkness. The scripture says in John 1:5 ESV that “the light shines in darkness and darkness has never put it out”. If you allow the light of God into your life, he will not only give your life a meaning but will save your soul as well. Accept Jesus into your life today by saying this short prayer of salvation. Blessings of Remembering God (Part 1)

Each time I read Ecclesiastes 12:1, I say to myself ‘Lord how do you actually want me to remember you?’. Recently, I meditated on this scripture, and I came up with loads of answers on how and why God wants us to remember him. The first thing I discovered is that when the scripture says remember God, it is not because God is lonely and therefore needs a companion, but because of the amazing blessings we would receive for putting him in mind our daily life. Today I share with you two of the many ways to remember God as well as their accompanied blessings.

Remembering God could mean to remember his mighty acts (or His works of old) (Deut. 8:2, 7:18, Psalm77:11). God wants us to remember what he has done for us – how he has delivered us from the enemy, how he has kept us alive, how he has provided for our needs. He wants us to remember how he has fought our enemy. God warned the children of Israel to remember how He had delivered them from the bondage of the Egyptians (Deut. 7:18). Why is God demanding that we should remember his mighty acts? It is because He knows that doing so will help us to fear him and most importantly, it will help us to trust in Him. If we (Christians) find it difficult to trust in the word of God, it is probably because we have forgotten what he has done for us. As George Santayana says “he who cannot remember the past is condemned to repeat it”

Another way to remember God is to remember His love. The scripture says “for God so love the word that he gave his only begotten Son…” (John3:16). God loves us so much and He expects this reality to sink into our consciousness so that we can reciprocate His love (Matthew 22:37), thereby giving Him the opportunity to bless us the more. In Proverbs 8:17 God says “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” If we remember God loves us, we would find it easy to love him in return, but if we close our mind to his love because of temporary challenges of life, then we lose out from his blessing. Psalm 91:14-16 tells us at least seven things God is set to do in our life if only we can love God unconditionally:

“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”

As we go about our daily activities, let us remember God in our schedule. Let us remember what he has done for us, for our family and for our nation. Let us remember His unalloyed love for us so that we can give him praise worthy of His glory. If we do these, we would soon realise that what we can achieve through God while we live is much bigger than we can ever imagined.

Prayers for Overcoming the Stronghold of Envy

Envy is destructive. It lies, it covets and it kills. The satanic stronghold of envy is a pathway to eternal destruction. Envy must not only be combated with the word of God but also with fervent prayer. If you or your loved one has fallen into the captivity of the sin of envy, here is a list of scriptural based prayers you can pray while trusting God (through the Holy Spirit) to set you free.

Praise, Worship and Thanksgiving

Start by praising the Lord of heaven and earth. Sing unto him and bless his holy name. If you don’t know how to sing, just go ahead and give thanks unto God whose mercy endures forever. He alone is worthy to receive all glory and honour.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for keeping me alive even to this day.
Father, I thank you for giving me the grace to realise that I have sinned.
Almighty God I thank you for what you are set to do in my life as I bring my prayer unto you.
I thank you Lord Jesus for your love, mercy and faithfulness.
Almighty father, I give you praise, honour and adoration.

Prayer Points for overcoming Envy

Everlasting Father, I come before you today, please forgive me of every sin of envy in the name of Jesus (1John 1:7-9). Lord, please cleanse me by your precious blood and make me whole.
Father, please give me the grace to be satisfied and be contented with whatever I have in the name of Jesus (Luke 3:14, 1 Timothy 6:6-7).
Heavenly father, please give me the grace to have peace with you and with everyone around me in the name of Jesus.
Almighty father, please let my love be centred not on the things of this world but on the heavenly inheritance which you have provided for me (1John 2:15-16) in the name of Jesus.
Father please fill me with the wisdom that emanate from the Holy Spirit (James 3:14-17) and let your Holy Spirit rule my life in the name of Jesus.
Heavenly Father, please give to me the spirit of humility so that I can exalt other than myself (1Peter 5:5) in the name of Jesus.
Father, please open my inner eyes and my heart to see envy whenever it comes. Lord, please give me the grace not to fall prey to this sin again in the name of Jesus.

Are You Saved?

The first step towards overcoming the stronghold of envy is to have Christ Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. With Jesus you can overcome envy whenever it lurks around, but without Him you might be miserable. Accepts Jesus into your life today! Say this short prayer of salvation and be born again.

Beware of Envy

Today, I’m going to write briefly on envy. I was reading the story of Daniel (Daniel 6:1-28) when I discovered a few things that I felt I should share with you today. Having finished reading the story in Daniel chapter 6 and saw what happened to Daniel’s accusers, I realised that it all started with envy. I was amazed how those individuals could allow the sin of envy to overwhelm them and thereby destroy their precious lives. May you never fall into this destructive sin.

Many of us (Christians) are guilty of envy. Whenever we see colleagues elevated to a higher position, we feel bad and ask our self why not me? Beloved, if you have ever felt that way, you need to repent. Ask God to forgive you because envy is a sin; not just a sin but a sin that could result in death. Let’s briefly look into the story of Daniel and his accusers so that you can have a good understanding of what I’m saying. In Daniel 6:1-3, Darius (the King) decided it would be good to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout his kingdom. He also decided to set up three officials to oversee the satraps. Among the three officials he needed one person that would preside over other officials. In the process he looked into the account of each of these individuals and discovered that Daniel was a better choice. Having chosen Daniel to preside, his colleagues including those under him became envious of his position. They fall prey to the sin of envy. Sin number 1

These folks could not control their feelings. As a result, envy led them to the sin of conspiracy. They conspired against Daniel (Daniel 6:4-8) by asking the king to make a law that no one should pray to any God, knowing fully well that Daniel could not do without praying to his God. They reported him after they found him praying and said he was praying to his God even when the law had been made that no one should pray to any God for thirty days – sin number 2. Beloved, check yourself: how do you relate to that colleague of yours who was recently promoted above you? Pastor E.A. Adeboye taught us a lesson some time ago; he said “pray for your colleagues that are promoted above you”. That way you will not fall prey to the sin of envy and conspiracy.

It doesn’t end there, these conspirators went to King Darius to lie against Daniel (Daniel 6:13). They said to the king that Daniel had no regard for the king – Sin number 3. As you can see, envy led them not only to sin of conspiracy but to sin of falsehood as well. The lesson here is that most of the thing that started as little sin ended up becoming a big and unmanageable sin if not repented as quickly as possible. As a Christian, we have the Holy Spirit and the word of God to guide our actions, our thinking and our will if only we yield to Him. Beloved let’s befriend Holy Spirit so that we would not fall.

Finally, brethren, the story of Daniel’s accusers is a tragic one. Daniel whom they sought to kill because of envy and hatred lived but they and their family died a tragic death - They become prey to the lions (Daniel 6:24). What started as envy led them to untimely death. This thing happened as a big lesson to every one of us. May the Lord lead and guide us always (in Jesus name)

Are You Saved?

The first step towards overcoming the sin of envy is to have Christ Jesus as your Lord and saviour. Are you born again? There is a big difference between a church goer and being born again. A church goer may not necessarily have Christ as his Lord and Saviour, but he that is born again has accepted Jesus as Lord. If you are not born again, the Holy Spirit cannot help you. Becoming a true child of God is very easy: all you need do is to surrender your life to Jesus Christ. To do this, simply say this prayer of salvation audibly and repent from all known sins. Please do it right away. Tomorrow might be too late! God bless you.
