Candle lit for the deadHezekiah recognised the power of prayer when death sentence was passed against him on sick bed. Prophet Isaiah told him to put his house in order because death is certain. Hezekiah heard the news and cried unto the Lord, and death sentence was reversed. Additional fifteen years was added to his years on earth (Isaiah 38:1-5).

Another person that benefited from the power of prayer was Tabitha (Dorcas). Tabitha fell sick and died. Her friends thought it was over but Peter knew what prayer can do, so he prayed and Tabitha came back to life.

“But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.” (Acts 9:40 KJV)

The Shunammite woman is another fellow who knew what prayer can do. Her son fell sick and died but she realised that Elisha the prophet can pray and God will answer. So she ran to fetch him and she was not disappointed with the result.

“When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed. So he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to the LORD. Then he went up and lay on the child, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. And as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm. Then he got up again and walked once back and forth in the house, and went up and stretched himself upon him. The child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.” (2King 4:32-35 ESV).
